Forgiving Those Who Never Apologize | Christian Guide
The hardest forgiveness I ever had to offer was not for an apology I received. It was for the ones I never got. There were people involved in the hardest season of my life who never called, never explained themselves, and never said the words I felt I deserved to hear.
For a long time I told myself I was waiting for their apology before I could let it go. What I did not realize was that I was the one paying the price for that wait, every single day I carried it.
*”For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.” Matthew 6:14*
Forgiveness was never meant to depend on the other person’s cooperation. That is a hard truth, because it means the healing is entirely in your hands, whether or not the person who hurt you ever makes it right. I had to learn that forgiving someone is not the same as excusing what they did. It is not saying it was okay. It is saying I refuse to let this keep living rent-free in me.
Some people will never apologize. Some people will never even acknowledge what happened. If you are waiting on that before you release it, you may be waiting the rest of your life. Do not give them that much power over your peace.
Forgiveness, for me, was never a single moment. It was a decision I had to keep making, especially on the days old memories resurfaced uninvited. But every time I chose it again, it got a little lighter to carry.
